a small ray of light

I've been obsessed with this Bruce Springsteen remix ever since I saw Rust+Bone the other night. Amazing film. It's about wounded people falling in love. Critics say that it's an unusual love story but I thought it was pretty realistic. Everyone has wounds and flaws they must come face to face with in the person they love--- they may not be as plain to see as physical injuries or fucked up circumstances, but  emotional and spiritual scars can cause just as much anguish in one's life. In fact, such injuries may be harder to diagnose because it's so easy to carry on a facade of being okay. Some people even try to overcompensate by trying to show off to others that nothing is wrong in their life and that, in fact, they have things that others should be jealous of. Such problems are also easier to ignore because one might not have a single clue on how to heal. It's nice to know that there is a small ray of hope amongst the vast cloudiness, that there is someone out there who understands, someone who is willing to walk through it with you, someone who sees the good in you. How powerful is that. That's my idea of romance. Anyway, I was disappointed to see that this film didn't receive any oscar nominations this year.

This year I've decided that I'm going to follow through on my resolutions, not just make them. I'm not usually a results-driven person and tend to focus on the effort put in, but I would like to see some changes this year.
